The Great Fridge Conspiracy: Planned Obsolescence and Your Wallet

The refrigeration appliance industry has really gotten away with murder.

Since purchasing a "modern refrigerator" a few years ago, I've had too many conversations about folks complaining about their own fridge.

It might be the ice or water machine. It might be the fridge's cooling system. It could be the fan. So many issues.

And then it started to happen to me last year. A barely 3 year old fridge already making weird noises because of the fan. Now, some toxic liquid is leaking from the fridge and stopped working.

And I'm on my 5th week without a fridge because different parts need to be ordered.

And even worse is that I'm one of the lucky ones who purchased the warranty. Can you imagine how much I'd be shelling out if I didn't.

Growing up, I never saw my parents change their fridge. Sure, once in a while, you may have a water leak, but for the most part, I can't recall ever going a week without a fridge.

We even attempted to ask the repairman what fridge they'd recommend if we were to buy a new one. And he basically explained it's really a hit or miss.

You see, it doesn't pay to make a product that will last 20 years. So they've lowered the product's quality so that you are forced to buy the warranty and probably change the fridge ever 5-7 years. It's actually kind of ridiculous.

Can you imagine if professional services worked the same way?

The truth is, despite the amount of food that goes wasted when the fridge breaks, it is just an appliance.

But a good CPA, advisor, or attorney is in charge of something far more important; your assets and it's protection.

I can't operate well for the first few years and then go on cruise control. Clients expect us to treat them the same way they were treated the first day they picked up the phone to call us.

And we agree.

That's why it's important to me that every client that sends us a message or calls us, is addressed the same day. While some professionals can take 2-3 days or even a week to hear back from, someone at our office is there for you almost always the same day or next to address your most precious questions.

Now that's service even the large fridge companies can't guarantee.
